Maverick is building a new category of consumer hardware: edge AI devices that run powerful artificial intelligence entirely locally, with no cloud dependency and no data collection. We are at the intersection of three massive trends — the proliferation of AI, the growth of smart homes, and the rising consumer demand for privacy. This page provides an overview of our business for prospective investors and partners.
Our Story
Maverick was founded in 2024 by a team of silicon engineers and AI researchers who saw a critical gap in the market: despite explosive growth in AI capabilities, every consumer AI product still depended on the cloud — meaning every interaction required sending personal data to remote servers. We set out to build hardware that could run state-of-the-art AI models entirely at the edge, in the home, with no compromises on performance or privacy.
We closed our seed round in late 2024, attracting backing from investors who shared our conviction that the future of consumer AI is local. Over the following 18 months, we designed a custom neural processing unit, built a full software stack from silicon drivers up to a developer SDK, and revealed our first product to a market response that exceeded every projection we had modeled. We are now preparing for our first product shipment and evaluating our next stage of growth capital.
Market Opportunity
The addressable market for Maverick sits at the convergence of three rapidly expanding sectors:
- Edge AI Market — The global edge AI hardware market is projected to grow from approximately $25 billion in 2025 to over $80 billion by 2030, driven by demand for low-latency, private AI inference at the device level.
- Smart Home Growth — Over 500 million smart home devices are shipped annually worldwide, with the total installed base expected to exceed 5 billion units by 2028. Consumers are increasingly frustrated by fragmented ecosystems and cloud-dependent devices.
- Privacy as a Purchase Driver — Consumer surveys consistently show that privacy is now a top-three factor in technology purchasing decisions. Over 70% of consumers express concern about the data practices of AI-powered devices in their homes. Maverick is the first product built to address this concern architecturally, not superficially.
Business Model
Maverick's business model is straightforward and aligned with our values:
- Hardware Sales — Revenue is generated primarily through the sale of Maverick devices and optional accessories. We sell direct through our website and through select retail partners.
- No Subscriptions — There are no recurring fees, subscription tiers, or paywalled features. Once you purchase a Maverick device, the full capability of the hardware is yours. We believe this is both the right thing to do and a powerful competitive differentiator.
- No Data Revenue — We do not collect, sell, or monetize user data in any form. Our business model is built entirely on product excellence, not on extracting value from our customers' personal information.
This model is intentionally simple. It is sustainable because our hardware provides genuine, differentiated value that customers are willing to pay for, and because we avoid the infrastructure and compliance costs associated with cloud-based data processing.
Traction
The market response to Maverick has validated our thesis beyond our most optimistic internal projections:
- 12,000+ preorders in the first 48 hours of availability, generating over $3.5 million in revenue commitment.
- 45,000+ waitlist sign-ups from customers who were unable to secure an initial preorder slot, representing substantial pent-up demand.
- 3,000+ developer registrations for early access to the Maverick SDK, indicating strong ecosystem interest before the product has even shipped.
- Coverage in 40+ publications including major technology and consumer outlets, with overwhelmingly positive sentiment focused on our privacy-first approach.
Shipping is confirmed for December 2026, with all preorders on track for fulfillment within the initial production run.
Leadership Team
Elena Zhao — Chief Executive Officer
Elena co-founded Maverick after 12 years at Apple, where she led product strategy for the Neural Engine across multiple iPhone and Mac generations. She holds an MBA from Stanford GSB and a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT. Elena's vision is that the most personal technology should be the most private technology.
Dr. Marcus Okonkwo — Chief Technology Officer
Marcus leads Maverick's technical direction across silicon, software, and AI research. Previously, he was a senior research scientist at Google DeepMind, where his work on efficient inference architectures influenced multiple production systems. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from UC Berkeley and has authored over 30 papers on neural network optimization.
Sarah Chen — Vice President, Hardware
Sarah oversees all hardware engineering, from silicon design through manufacturing. She spent 15 years at NVIDIA, rising to lead the consumer GPU architecture team before joining Maverick. She holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford and is named on 18 patents related to GPU and NPU architecture.
James Park — Vice President, Software
James leads Maverick's software platform, including the operating system, developer SDK, and companion applications. He was previously a senior engineering manager at Apple, where he led the HomeKit software team for five years.
